What EXACTLY is your HP Pavilion x360 convertible 14 cd-00xxx ? For example HP Pavilion x360 - 14-cd0008ca, its specs

which shows it has 1 USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 1 (Data transfer up to 5 Gb/s) port. This port does NOT support USB-C to HDMI and it is NOT a Thunderbolt port.

Your machine is on a SAME series, probably has same port. You have to use HDMI port to connect to an external monitor.

Regards.

No the USB-C port is data only so you need an active adapter that has DisplayLink technology which carries a video signal over USB, not an Alt-DP to HDMI adapter as you are likely using.

And yes, if you just want to connect a single monitor via HDMI the laptop has an HDMI port so why not use that? The USB port replicator would let you connect two extended desktop monitors, however.
