Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased an HP Pavillion laptop. Not liking the grey on silver lettering on keys as I cannot see the letters without a light above teh keyboard, nor the touchpad that keeps expanding/contracting the view at will. For years I have used an external keyboard, mouse and monitor. With no VGA connector on the laptop I purchased a VGA/USB-C adapter and expected that the plug and play as teh monitor is an HP 2309V, yet I am unable to get the connection recognised. The monitor just says no signal and goes to sleep and teh laptop  so the monitor just goes to sleep and the laptop either does nothing when I try to select the external mlonitor or on aoccasion has shown it does not recognise the USB connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can get the laptop and monitor to communicate?

Yes the specs list that USB-C as a data transfer port and do not say it is Thunderbolt so that seems the logical answer...the port is not able to support video. I did look up your monitor and it seems it has a DVI and HDMI connection in the back in addition to the VGA...its been many years since monitors only had VGA. You definitely want to use a digital connection if possible, but if not I think you will have success using the HDMI output on the laptopwith an HDMI to VGA adapter.

Please give the model number of the laptop and identify the adapter you used. Does the monitor have a port other than VGA. I have had trouble with USB-C to VGA, much less so with HDMI and virtually no problems with USB-C to DP.

The USB-C port, depending on the model (why we ask) may or may not be designed to carry a video signal.

I am struggling to find a model number but the box shows the product code as 2CU99EA#ABU. Is that sufficient?

The adapter I bought was

[Full HD] LENTION USB C to VGA Adapter, 1080P Supported Type C to VGA Cable Converter for Apple MacBook 12, 2016 2017 MacBook Pro 13 15 with Touch Bar, New Dell XPS 13 15, More, Thunderblot 3 Adapter

The Monitor does not have any other outputs other than the VGA. I've been using it for years with other laptops so I think it should work. I'm thinking that maybe I need to get a VGA/HDMI adapter and see if that works.
