Hi @RickDekart ,
Thank you for choosing HP Community,
If you're having trouble updating the TPM on your HP ZBook 17 for a Windows 11 upgrade and are being requested for the owner password, with the "Clear TPM" option grayed out in Windows and BIOS, here are some steps you might follow to resolve the issue:
- Administrator Access: Make sure you are logged in using an administrative account as this is required to change TPM settings.
- Check BIOS for TPM Settings:
- Restart your ZBook and press F10 to enter the BIOS setup.
- Navigate to the Security menu and ensure the TPM option is set to "Available." If it is grayed out, check if there's an option to reset to defaults either in the Security section or general BIOS settings.
- Perform a BIOS Reset:
- Within BIOS, find the option to restore security settings to factory defaults or to reset the BIOS settings. This might reset TPM settings and unlock access to make changes.
- If a reset option is unavailable, consult the user manual or HP support documentation for guidance specific to your ZBook 17 model.
- Physical Presence Requirement:
- Some TPM changes may require a physical presence confirmation. Ensure that the prompt to confirm these operations is being followed during the next boot sequence.
- Sometimes, you'll need to enter a passcode during the next boot to verify this change, so follow the on-screen instructions carefully.
- Windows TPM Management:
- Run tpm.msc in Windows and ensure the status message does not indicate any issues that need resolving other than the password requirement.
- Attempt to reset TPM under an administration account through the Windows interface, ensuring that Windows is updated to the latest version before trying these operations.
Note: It's important to back up all data on your system because resetting or clearing TPM may result in data loss, especially if any drives are encrypted using BitLocker or a similar technology.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
