I recently had a number of updates install, including one that ran a BIOS update.  As a result, my computer no longer seems to recognize the built-in camera.  Help?

Hi @Teamroperchemis,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like the BIOS update might have disabled the built-in camera or affected its drivers. Here’s how you can fix it:

Check If the Camera Is Disabled in BIOS

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
  3. Look for Integrated Camera and make sure it is Enabled.
  4. Save & Exit (F10) and restart your laptop.

Check Windows Camera Privacy Settings

Sometimes, Windows updates change privacy settings.

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  2. Make sure "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
  3. Scroll down and enable camera access for the apps you need.

Reinstall the Camera Driver

  1. Right-click on Start and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras.
  3. If you see your camera, right-click it and select Uninstall device.
  4. Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the correct drivers automatically.

Manually Install the Camera Driver

  1. Go to HP’s support website: HP Customer Support
  2. Enter your model: HP ENVY 16-h1xxx.
  3. Download and install the latest camera drivers.
  4. Restart your laptop.

Check for Hidden Camera Device

If the camera is missing in Device Manager:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Click View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Look under Imaging Devices or Cameras.
  4. If your camera appears grayed out, right-click > Enable.

Roll Back the BIOS (If Necessary)

If none of the above work and the issue started only after the BIOS update, consider rolling it back:

  1. Download an earlier BIOS version from HP’s website.
  2. Follow HP’s BIOS rollback instructions (usually done through a BIOS recovery USB).
  3. Restart and check if the camera works.

Let me know if any of these steps helped or if you need more guidance! 😊

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?"—your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍
