Hello. I've recently bought a set of Crucial 2x16(32GB) DDR4-SODIMM 3200HZ ram for an upgrade to the 2x8gb(16GB) set that I had bought included in my Victus Gaming Laptop Model 15fa1000. When I placed once stick into the bottom slot, the computer works fine with 16gb of ram, but when I insert both of the 16gb sticks, the computer's screen shows black and three flashes of lights are shown on the caplock key before repeating. I was looking at my computer's bios(currently version f18) and realized that there was a another version(f25) that I could update to. When I tried to look at the Software and Driver website for my exact model, there were no software nor driver options available for me. When I used the HP Support Assistant, there was nothing I could update either. I was wondering what my issue is with the ram sticks and how I could update to f25.

Hi @CM171,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out, and I understand how concerning this can be when a hardware upgrade doesn’t work as expected. I’ll clarify both the RAM compatibility and the BIOS update confusion for your HP Victus Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 series.
About the RAM issue (black screen + 3 Caps Lock blinks)
The 3 Caps Lock blinks you’re seeing indicate a memory initialization failure, which typically means the installed RAM is not supported or exceeds the system’s design limits.
Supported memory for HP Victus 15-fa1000
- Maximum supported RAM: 16 GB total
- Memory type: DDR4-3200 MHz SODIMM
- Slots: 2
- Supported configuration:
- 2 × 8 GB = 16 GB (maximum)
Because of this limitation:
- ✅ One 16 GB stick may POST intermittently
- ❌ Two 16 GB sticks (32 GB total) will not initialize, resulting in a black screen and blink error
Unfortunately, 32 GB (2 × 16 GB) is not supported on this model, even though the RAM speed and form factor are correct.
About the BIOS version (F18 vs F25)
For the Victus 15-fa1000 series, the latest supported BIOS released by HP is F.21.
- BIOS F.25 is not intended for your exact model
- Installing or attempting to install a BIOS not designed for your product can cause boot failure
- This is why:
- You do not see F.25 on the Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa1000 Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- HP Support Assistant does not offer it as an update
Your system is working as expected in this regard.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @CM171,
Thank you for sharing that information and for checking the system capability using the WMIC MaxCapacityEx command. You’re absolutely correct. This value reflects the theoretical maximum memory capacity supported by the chipset and processor, which, in your case, indicates support up to 32 GB.
To clarify HP’s position and set the right expectations:
- HP has officially tested and validated your specific model up to 16 GB of RAM. This is the configuration we guarantee for full compatibility, stability, and complete HP support.
- While it is technically possible to install up to 32 GB of memory (as indicated by the system and processor capabilities), configurations beyond 16 GB have not been tested or validated by HP for this model.
- If you choose to install 32 GB, the system may work correctly; however, HP support would be limited for issues that may arise specifically from the higher, untested memory configuration.
We appreciate your taking the initiative to verify the hardware limits and for keeping us informed. If you’d like, we can still help you choose the best-supported memory configuration or guide you on compatible specifications based on HP’s tested limits.
Take care and have an amazing day!
