I want to upgrade to Windows 11, but this laptop's CPU is not supported (Intel Core i7-7700HQ @ 2.8 GHz). Is it possible to upgrade the CPU to one that is supported? If so, how can I find which ones would work with this laptop?

Hi:

Your notebook's processor is an integral part of the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

There are no supported motherboards offered in the model series that come with W11-supported processors.

If you are interested in installing W11 on your PC as is, you can read this discussion for how I upgraded several HP and Dell notebook and desktop PC's that did not meet the W11 hardware requirements to W11 22H2.

You have to use the version of the Rufus utility that I zipped up and attached in the discussion (v3.18).

If the in-place upgrade fails, you should be able to clean install W11 using the bootable W11 installation flash drive you made with Rufus.

Thanks for the quick reply and the suggestions. The only reason I want to upgrade is that I read somewhere (not sure if it’s true yet) that Microsoft was going stop supporting Windows 10 soon. I’ll probably leave it alone until I can get a new laptop.

You're very welcome.

W10 will continue to have Microsoft support to October 14, 2025.
