Pavilion G6 1371Pavilion 65XX
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Will be attempting to update Pavilion G6 1371EA from Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit to Windows 10 Home 64bit next week and would like to know other peoples experience doing so. Especialy if the BIOS needs to be updated and if so to which version and link to download aswell as other drivers that would need to be updated after the update to Windows 10.

Any help and guidance will be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Backed up the HP G6 laptop and clean installed Windows 10 Home 1903 version, installed Malwarebytes Anti-Virus/Malware, Microsoft Office 2010 and copied all the data back into the libraries and created a new full image with Macrium Reflect and all is working fine with no issues to report.

Always a good idea to update the BIOS before a major thing like an OS upgrade:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/closure/hp-pavilion-g6-1300-notebook-pc-series/5186...

Above is the latest BIOS for Intel based systems. Update BIOS in Windows 7 before upgrading to Windows 10. I recommend a clean install not an upgrade installation.

Recent Windows 10 Builds have had significant trouble with 2d gen Intel processors (Sandy Bridge) such as yours. We recently had a User who simply could not get the Intel video driver to install and the Basic video adapter was all that would work.

Can you perhaps let us know why you want to do the upgrade? Fear of loss of Windows 7 support?

Thanks Huffer for your reply,

Yes

Your link just takes me to this where I cannot see the button to download the latest BIOS for the Pavilion G6 1371EA!

I cannot find the BIOS update for Windows 7 for the Pavilion G6 1371EA for Intel CPU.

I do not have the Notebook with me at the present time as it is my daughter's who will bring it to me next Monday week so I am just getting as much as possible ready for then.

My intention is to upgrade it to Windows 10 to get the product key activated and then do a clean install after that.

I will ofcourse create an image before the upgrade in case things do not go as planned.

Any links to Pavilion G6 1371EA software downloads would be most appreciated.

Try this:

The Intel BIOS is there. You will find no specific Windows 10 drivers. Windows 10 will install some kind of driver for all the hardware. If you have any problems after Windows 10 install we can tackle and devices one by one from downloads from component manufacturer sites.

Thanks again Huffer, that took me to https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-g6-1300-notebook-pc-series/5186808

which has all the downloads for the g6-1300 Notebook which I assume are the same for the Pavilion G6 1371EA.

I will now wait till Monday week when I'll have the notebook here and will try the upgrade and take it from there. I will post back with the results then.

Those are the Windows 7 downloads which will for the most part be useless in Windows 10. Except for the BIOS which you should update from your existing Windows 7 installation. If you can, make a clone or keep some other way to reinstall Windows 7 as I tried to let you know about video issues you are likely to have with Windows 10 and I have not really seen any indication that you have understood that. Good luck.

Yes I did understand what you said "update BIOS with Windows 7 still installed" and like I said I will create an image with Macrium Reflect before doing the upgrade. Then try the upgrade and see how it goes.

That's the spirit. Good luck
