Hi
I would like to upgrade my laptop to an SSD. I have a crucial MX100 500gig SSD with model number CT512MX100SSD1.
Will this be compatible with my laptop? My laptop only has 4gigs of ram so was hoping the SSD would improve performance.
I have just had the original HDD replaced under warranty and before I reinstall the software I was thinking of using the SSD that I hve rather than the new HDD that HP installed.
I have checked with HP support and they said it would not void the warranty, but they could not confirm compatibility and as usual they only recommend HP products:-)

You're welcome.
Yes, it will be a great improvement over a regular hard drive. I try not to use computers any longer which have a mechanical drive as I have become used to SSDs.

David

Hi,
Yes, it will work. Naturally, it is an older model of SSD, you could use an MX500 or Samsung 860 Evo for an even greater boost.
You will need to reinstall the OS on the SSD. You can perform a clean install by downloading the media creation tool from Microsoft (before replacing drive), running and creating a bootable Pen Drive with the OS on it. Choose custom install during installation and delete all partitions and install in unallocated space. It will give a great boost to everyday performance.
You could also consider upgrading the RAM to 8GB which would also give an extra boost.

I realise that it is an older SSD, but it is what I have now and don't want to spend more at this stage.
Will it show real improvement with the 4gb of ram (which I don't want to upgrade now either)
Don't want to waste my time going through the install only to find it has not made a difference.
Thanks again,
