HP Laptop PC 14s-dq2000

Hi all. I have a HP 14 dq-2088wm with i5 1135g7, GPU iris xe and two slots of 4gb sodimm slots at 3200mhz. I checked my CMD to see the maximum RAM capacity for my laptop and it stated 32gb RAM. However, I want to know if this notebook comes with a soldered ram slot as this can hinder a proper RAM upgrade. I want to know if it is upgradable in a way that I can replace both slots with an 8gb or 16gb sodimm slot. I've seen some clues on crucial but I need more verification. Thanks all.

@Joshman97,

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!

The RAM in your HP - Compaq HP 14-dq2088wm can be exchanged/upgraded.

According to: HP - Compaq HP 14-dq2088wm | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com, your laptop can be fitted with up to 2 x 32GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM sticks.

As per your laptop's specs, the RAM will down throttle to 2666 MHz.

Hope this was helpful.

Thank you for your timely response. Please what page of the manual did you get the affirmation? I looked through the manual but I didn't explicitly see my machine. Does the HP 14s-2000 apply to my laptop? And please what do you mean by down throttle? Is it something that will reduce my performance?

@Joshman97,

I edited my first response to reflect your precise laptop model (HP - Compaq HP 14-dq2088wm). Not just verified by Crucial, but other reliable (external) sources as well such as this one: 14-dq2088wm Memory Upgrade - HP 14-dq2088wm Laptop Memory (memorystock.com).

And yes, the HP 14s-2xxx specs do apply to your laptop.

The maximum RAM speed your laptop allows is 2666 MHz.  You could purchase DDR4 PC4-21300, 2666 MHz RAM sticks, but most often people buy DDR4 PC4-25600 3200 MHz RAM sticks, as in some cases they are actually cheaper and more available than 2666 MHz RAM sticks.  Either RAM models provide the same RAM performance.

Once again, thank you very much for this response. It is very reassuring and I'm relieved. However, if I can upgrade to 64gb with two 32gb slots, why does my system say the maximum RAM capacity is 32gb ram? Thank you so much for your responses this far. They were really helpful

@Joshman97,

For ultimate peace of mind, type in cmd in your Windows search bar, right-click on the Command Prompt App, and left-click on "Run as administrator". Then copy/paste/enter the following CMD command:

wmic memphysical get maxcapacity

And you should see a number, such as using my PC:

When you divide this number (in my case: 67108864) by 1024 and again by 1024, you get your laptop's maximum RAM capacity in GB.

@Joshman97,

Now, in some cases the WMIC maximum RAM capacity command may get it wrong.

For example, the processor in the PC I am currently using is an i9-9900KS, which has a 128GB total RAM supporting capacity as per: Intel® Core™ i9-9900KS Processor, so I am very confident that this PC could -or rather should, handle 4 x 32GB RAM (currently 4 x 16GB).

Thanks so much. I have entered the command and I get 33554432 which is the same as 32gb. But I'm convinced that it may be wrong. So for now, I'm pretty certain that I can upgrade to 64gb. Nevertheless, I'm glad I can upgrade my RAM anyway. Thanks for the reassurance. Wishing you the best. And also, you've got a really powerful machine. Hope to get one someday.
