I've actually got a Zbook 15 G3....sending this from it and I upgraded to an MXM video card from the stock integrated graphics. Also chose the M2000M.
MXM video cards are a bit of a black art. They are not universally compatible as desktop video cards are. The Geforce 1050 Ti and the Quadro M2000M are the same form factor-both are MXM-A:
However, the motherboard of the Zbook G3 is set up to recognize only the M2000M and the other compatible MXM card listed in the Manual. A stock Geforce 1050 Ti will perhaps keep the system from booting. There are MXM enthusiast sites out there and custom video BIOS which can be applied and maybe get the 1050Ti working. Some have also reported success by forcing the GeForce driver during install, which implies their system booted with the 1050 Ti
Good luck and let us know how it works. The current heatsink/fan will work fine at least.

Yeah I`m familiar with the situation with mxm cards. I already had G1 with k2100m few years ago and I was thinking about upgrade to gtx 965m. I had the correct bios version if it was need it. Currently I have G3 version with m2000m and I still hesitating between M2200 and GTX 1050ti. I`ll try to give a chance to1050ti and I hope things will work only with manual driver installation. I also found the vBios version which I need but really hope flashing will not be need it.

So I can confirm: it works fine. The driver needs to be modded. I was needed to enable hybrid graphics into bios and to chose system to use High-performance Nvidia processor from the NVIDIA control panel (as it was expected). Also I pushed the core clock few herz up just to test stability of system and to get few FPS where is need it. Temperatures are in safe limits. Also everything is stable under the heavy load and stress stability test. Just adding few screenshots (The game is called A Plague Tale Requiem)

You can unpack the driver install package and use "have a disk" option under the safe mode to select the driver manually. Much much better is to modify inf files manually or just use NVCleanstall tool to create your own install package based on the the original one. Always install modified driver package in safe mode and don't forget to install Nvidia control panel, because you will need to configurate your settings. For preferred graphics processor always use high-performance NVIDIA processor.
