My laptop was running very slowly, and I saw a similar post (see below) along with the reply from @Paul_Tikkanen.
I am considering the Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) from Amazon.
I have a couple of questions:
- Can I replace it with a 2TB WD Blue SSD, or does this model only allow up to 1TB?
- My laptop has 8GB of memory. Can I buy an additional 16GB memory stick and install it in the open slot? If I have one slot with 8GB and the other with 16GB, will mixing RAM speeds still work or leads to stability issues? If yes, then I guess I may have to buy 2x16GB for optimal performance?
- I saw this another post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Max-RAM-upgrade-for-my-HP-Pavi... where @Paul_Tikkanen recommended to buy Crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM | CT16G4SFD824A | Crucial.com.
- They don't have DDR4-2400 but they have DDR4-3200, Is that compatible ?
Any recommendations on what memory I should buy? Thank you so much for your help, @Paul_Tikkanen.

You're very welcome.
Yes, you can use the Crucial DDR4-3200 MHz memory, and it will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz.
Dual channel mode will provide slightly better performance than single channel mode.
What you can do is install the 16 GB memory chip now and if you ever want to max out the memory, you can always install the second 16 GB memory chip in the future.
Here's a helpful video that shows the performance difference between single and dual channel mode:
Single Channel vs Dual Channel Memory - Laptop Gaming and CPU Benchmarks (youtube.com)
Now of course, this is comparing 1 x 16 GB of memory vs 2 x 8 GB of memory, not 16 GB of memory vs 24 GB of memory.

You should be able to install a 2 TB WD Blue SA510 SATA SSD in place of the 1 TB mechanical hard drive in your notebook.
You should be able to install 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2400 MHz memory in your notebook, and you can confirm that by running this command:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
Suggested memory upgrade:
or:
With 24 GB your notebook will run the memory in single channel mode like it is now.
With 32 GB (2 x 16 GB), your notebook will run the memory in dual channel mode since the memory chips in both slots have the same capacity.

Thank you so much @Paul_Tikkanen for your reply about Hard Disk and memory upgrade.
If I have 1x16gb and 1x8gb memory, then is it ok running in single channel mode ? Is single channel gives any less performance compared to dual channel mode?
Other question is, Crucial doesn't have DDR4-2400 but they have DDR4-3200, Is that compatible ? Thank you so much for your reply.
