I purchased this laptop last year and I really like it, but i'm disappointed with the startup time. My understanding is that the laptop has a std 1T drive with a 16 gb nvme type ssd for a buffer. Can I replace the Optane device with something like a 500 GB NVME device? Would it be better to just replace the 1T std format drive with that type ssd? And will I be able to migrate the contents of the hard drive onto the new storage device?

You can replace Optane with normal M.2 NVMe SSD and migrate OS to new NVMe drive but before you can do that you need to disable Optane first. The following tutorial may help

@Banhien
Thank you so much for your answer, it's that time of year for deals so I can start looking now!
PS Do you have a current link to the service manual, or at least some sort of reference how to safely disassemble the laptop? As long as I have it open I figure I may as well upgrade the Ram as well.
