Hi,
I would like to upgrade my laptop 17-ab464nb.
Original RAM configuration: RAM 16 Go (2 x 8 Go ) SO-DIMM DDR4-2666 (1333 MHz) SK Hynix HMA81GS6CJR8N-VK (collected by CPU-Z)
I can't find any information about that model on https://product.skhynix.com/products/dram/ddr/ddr4sd.go
I want to upgrade to maximum RAM, 32 Go ? (64 Go would have been better)
Max frequency is 2666 for my laptop ? Any other specifications I need to know to select the right product ?
this model is ok for my laptop ?
Kingston FURY Impact DDR4 SODIMM 32 Go 2666 MHz (2 x 16 Go)
Original SSD configuration: SAMSUNG 128 Go SSD MZNLN128HAHQ-000H1
I can't find any information about that model on https://semiconductor.samsung.com/support/tools-resources/product-finder/
I need minimum 400 Go - 512 Go but I see that if you pay a little bit more it's more interesting for 1 To
What about the heat ? 1 To for a system disk on a laptop is ok ? I'll make a 400-500Go partition for data on it.
Do I have to replace SSD by another SSD or can I choose HDD ?
What kind of SSD ? M.2 SATA ? NVMe ? Any other specifications I need to know to select the right product ?
Is this model ok for my laptop ?

Hi @Min_Max,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are looking for help with upgrading your Laptop.
Here’s a detailed look at your options and considerations for each upgrade:
RAM Upgrade
Maximum RAM Capacity:
- Your HP 17-ab464nb laptop supports up to 32 GB of RAM. While 64 GB would be ideal for some high-performance tasks, the maximum supported by your laptop's motherboard and chipset is 32 GB.
RAM Frequency:
- Your laptop's RAM speed is capped at DDR4-2666 MHz. You should select RAM modules that match this frequency to ensure compatibility and avoid potential performance issues.
Compatible RAM Model:
- The Kingston FURY Impact DDR4 SO-DIMM 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) 2666 MHz is a good choice. It matches the specifications of your current RAM and the maximum supported capacity. Ensure you are buying SO-DIMM (Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module) which is the type used in laptops.
SSD Upgrade
SSD Types:
- M.2 SATA: This type of SSD connects through the M.2 slot but uses the SATA interface. It offers similar speeds to traditional 2.5-inch SATA SSDs.
- NVMe: This is a faster SSD type that connects via the M.2 slot but uses the NVMe protocol, offering significantly higher speeds compared to SATA SSDs.
Storage Capacity:
- For a significant upgrade, a 1 TB SSD is an excellent choice. It provides ample space for your system and data, and it's a good balance between cost and capacity.
Compatibility:
- Your laptop likely uses a 2.5-inch SATA SSD, given the original SSD’s form factor and your mention of the Western Digital SATA SSD. If your laptop has an M.2 slot and supports NVMe SSDs, you can use an NVMe SSD for faster performance.
- Check the laptop’s service manual or specifications for supported SSD types.
- Inspect the existing SSD slot to see if it’s an M.2 slot and if it’s occupied by a SATA or NVMe drive.
Heat Considerations:
- A 1 TB SSD should not cause significant heat issues in a laptop, especially if it’s a SATA SSD. NVMe SSDs may generate more heat, but modern laptops are generally designed to handle this. Ensure your laptop’s cooling system is functioning properly to manage any additional heat.
SSD Model:
- The Western Digital PC SA510 SATA SSD (1 TB) you mentioned should be compatible if your laptop supports 2.5-inch SATA drives. The dimensions (100.2mm x 69.85mm x 7mm) are standard for 2.5-inch drives, so it should fit in the SSD bay of your laptop.
Summary
- RAM: Kingston FURY Impact DDR4 SO-DIMM 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) 2666 MHz is suitable for upgrading to the maximum capacity supported.
- SSD: For best performance and capacity, consider a 1 TB NVMe SSD if supported by your laptop. If not, a 1 TB SATA SSD like the Western Digital PC SA510 should work well.
