Hi,

Currently I have 8GB SK Hynix 2400MHz RAM equipped with the system. I want to take my capacity to 16 GB.

I want to add another 8GB. I have a doubt till what speed RAM will the motherboard support?

If the motherboard can accommodate a higher speed, I would consider directly adding a 16GB module instead

and removing the 8 GB module.

Also what is this CL17, CL19 & C22?

will this support my system properly without any issue Amazon.in: Buy Crucial Basics 8GB DDR4 1.2v 2666Mhz CL19 SODIMM RAM Memory Module for Laptops and No...

Hi:

Your notebook should be able to run DDR4-2666 MHz memory at its full speed.

Here are the processor specs from Intel:

Intel Core i78750H Processor 9M Cache up to 4.10 GHz Product Specifications

I don't know why HP installed a 2400 MHz memory chip in your notebook.

CL17, CL19 & CL22 are the standard timing specs for the various memory speeds.

Standard DDR4-2400 memory is CL17, DDR4-2666 is CL19 and DDR4-3200 is CL22

You want DDR4-2666 CL19 memory or DDR4-3200 CL22 memory.  The DDR4-3200 memory will automatically bridge to 2666 MHz.

If you leave the DDR4-2400 memory chip installed, all memory will run at 2400 MHz.

Hi,

The RAM speed depends on the processor or the motherboard?

If it can support higher speed DDR4 - 3200MHz ram then, I would consider directly adding a 16GB DDR4 - 3200MHz module instead and remove the 8 GB module.

If not then I will go with this one Crucial Basics 8GB DDR4 1.2v 2666Mhz CL19 SODIMM RAM https://amzn.in/d/8bR5WHA

Yes, the processor should be running the memory at 2666 MHz, and I agree with your decision to remove the 8 GB chip and install a 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz memory chip in its place.

If you look at chapter 1, page 4 of the service manual for the 15-bc4xx model series, notice the memory information:

c06325755.pdf (hp.com)

Two of the processors run the memory at 2666 MHz and two run the memory at 2400 MHz.

Now, unless the motherboard/BIOS has some kind of restriction that I am not aware of, DDR4-2666 and DDR4-3200 memory should be running at 2666 MHz with the processor your notebook has.

So, either there is an unknown restriction that prevents the memory from running at 2666 MHz or HP installed the wrong speed memory for your notebook at the factory.

To me, it would be worth the experiment to install the faster memory.

If for some reason the DDR4-3200 memory still only runs at 2400 MHz, then you can reinstall the 8 GB memory chip and have 24 GB of memory, so it wouldn't be a total loss.
