HP Notebook - 14-dq0011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased the HP Notebook - 14-dq0011dx a couple of weeks ago and haven't had any issues with it; however, I purchased and set up a dual band wifi router at my house 2 days ago to get better wifi speed and coverage.  It was only after I set up the router that I discovered that this laptop does not support the 5GHz wifi band so I'm still limited to the slower 2.4GHz band.  I found this out 2 days after the return period on the laptop expired or I would've exchanged it for a laptop that does support 5GHz.

The laptop has a Realtek RTL8723DE 802.11b/g/n (1x1) and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo card/adapter and I am wondering if it's possible to upgrade the card internally to something that supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz?  If so, what cards/adapters are compatible with this laptop?

Thank you.

Hi:

Yes, there is one model dual band wifi adapter you can upgrade to and that is this one...

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported)
HP Part # L17365-005

The card has been on back order from HP for eons now, but you can find one for sale on eBay.

Thank you for the information.  I did some quick research on this card and found a couple of websites that lists HP computers that it's compatible with and my model number isn't listed.  Are you sure it will work with the 14-dq001dx?  I'd just hate to order it, open up my computer, then not be able put it in.

Thanks again!

You're very welcome.

Yes, it will work just fine.

Any other dual band wifi adapter that is supported in your notebook requires two antenna cables, and yours only has one.

HP even lists it as one of the supported wifi adapters.  See chapter 3, page 16 of the service manual.
