Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I decided to combine both questions since they are both hardware related.

Yesterday suddenly my Z key stopped working. After being convinced that it is not a software problem, I opened up my laptop, cleaned the keyboard but nothing helped. It's the only key that does not work. My question is how do I remove the key, to look it up and maybe change it.

My other question is related to installing a second memory drive(SSD) to my laptop. When I opened my laptop, I tried the new hdd case and cable that I bought, and it worked properly in the HDD1 slot, but when I conected it to the HDD2 slot, it showed me that there is no disk to boot the OS from. Is my second slot broken, or I do have to activate it somehow?

Thank you a lot!

If you tested the key as I suggested and it does not work, that means there is a fault.

The keyboard must be replaced to resolve the issue

See the following website for a video that shows how to replace keys on your notebook

With many older notebooks like yours, you have to use the first disk slot in order to boot to an OS.

Thank you for a fast answer.

Here is my key: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b78x04a0iw6uevl/IMG_20161125_112646.jpg?dl=0

It does not seem to look wrong it any way, nor do the pins. I have also cleaned the back side and the pins where it connects to the laptop. Do you know what should I do in order to repair it?

Also, can I go with any SSD, install it it HDD1 slot, and my main HDD in HDD2 slot and it would work just fine?

HP Recommended

For an older notebook, you should stick with TLC memory controller type SSD disks. NVMe types will not work.

Samsung 840 EVO\850 EVO  SSD disks will work in your notebook.

Use the videos. They show how to reinstall the key. It is indeed not simple to remove and replace keys.

You might find it simpler to replace the complete keyboard.

I managed to find out how to remove and put the key back. However, it did not solve the issue. Can I do something to solve it, or I have no hope and I should find a new keyboard?

HP Recommended

You can test the keyboard part by removing the key again.

Boot to Windows, open notepad and use your finger to press the silicone "bubble" on the space where the key should be.

If the letter appears, then it means that the reinstallation of the key was not done properly and you should attempt it again.

Unfortunately, it does not work. I tried it in bios, does not work there either. I am really confuse now what should the problem be; all other keys work fine, I have tested them with a software
