Well figure well under half what I said. Going from 8 gigs to 16 gigs on the RAM and 256 to 512 is way way cheaper
Has 2 slots and uses DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM
Start on p. 22 of the Manual to remove back cover.
memory slots
Your laptop has one slot with a module and the other is empty. You need a module like this:
So if you also want to upgrade the storage let me know. If this is the info you needed please accept as solution.

If this is what you have:
i7-8th gen 16 gigs RAM and 512 gig NVME M.2 disk then I do not see that much can be accomplished but yes you could theoretically install 32 gigs RAM and a larger NVME disk.
Post back if you want specifics. Upgrades would run well over $600

If you never hit the page file running 16G of ram (as in, ram is full and now uses the disk storage as ram). Then yes, more ram for your use case would be a waste. If you ever find you do, you have to make a judgement call for your use case if its worth going with more. How much of an inconvience hitting page file is vs how much the upgrade costs.

Just in general 16 gigs is plenty for almost anyone. The exceptions are if you are doing content creation like video editing or heavy Photoshop, CAD work, compiling Code or trying to run multiple virtual machines (emulated computers).
