HP ENVY - 17-bw0005na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am purchasing an HP ENVY - 17-bw0005na that comes with a 128 GB M.2 SSD and 1 TB SATA HDD.

I would like to replace these with a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB M.2 2280 PCI-E 3.0 X4 NVME drive by itself.  The 17m-bw0xxx Maintenance and Service Guide mentions support for this specification of drive, but also mentions support for a SATA HDD, and for various HDD / SSD combinations.

My question is:  Do all types of 17m-bw0xxx model support all the combinations of drives, or do the different 17m-bw0xxx models only support some of the various combinations listed?  In other words, can I be sure that the Samsung drive is compatible with the 17-bw0005na ?

Hi,

Yes, the model supports M2 PCIe NVMe drive and the 970 Evo Plus is considered the best. You can upgrade to your desired capacity (no limit). The service manual only mentions the capacities models in that series could have been bought with.

You will need to reinstall the OS on the SSD.

Hope it helps,

David
