hi everyone,
i need help to figure out the problem of my laptop but i don't know how. i'd read many forum threads about upgrading HDD to SSD of their old laptop and make the SSD as their system hard drive. many suggestions are mentioned but in my cases not working. someone said enabling AHCI in bios will work but my bios no option at all. SSD is also not recognize in bios. no way to change the boot order to SSD. as of my last resort maybe i need to update my intel 82801HBM SATA AHCI Controller Driver version 7.8.0.1012 to latest version compatible to my motherboard and os but not sure if i can update and where i can found the update driver.
any inputs will highly appreciated from our expert.
as always thank you.

Hi, Noel:
Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone that got a SSD to work in the dv6000/dv9000 models with the nvidia chipset and AMD processors.
The chipset your notebook has is very old technology.
The drive controller in your notebook is set to IDE, and cannot be changed to anything else.
Any info you are reading about Intel SATA controllers is not applicable to your model.
SSD's do work in the dv6000/dv9000 models with the Intel processors and chipsets.
If you can't return the drive, save it for use in a newer model notebook, because it won't work in yours.

hi sir paul,
thank you for your reply.
my laptop has oem Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5550 (2M Cache, 1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB).
as you saying SSD will work in the dv6000/dv9000 model with intel processor and chipsets so my laptop has hope to resolve the issue. but how? could you please give me a clear methods to do it. also in this forum i've just read with same condition of my laptop find their way to resolve the problem. that is what i want to know if possible to update my SATA AHCI controller. any driver update you can suggest?

You're very welcome, Noel.
I'm sorry, I got the wrong model number.
The 6810us has the Turion processor.
If yours has an Intel processor, the SSD should have worked right out of the box without any issue and unfortunately, I wouldn't know why it isn't.
A couple of things you can try...The problem is you will need a working hard drive with Windows Vista on it.
1. Update the BIOS to the latest version.
Info file:

Exe file:

Update the chipset driver to the latest version. That will update the sata ahci controller.

thank you sir Paul.
let me ask the bios and chipset update you provided could be apply in my laptop hp pavilion dv6700 series hence upon checking it was mentioned only for hardware product model s namely:
hp pavilion dv6500 / dv9500 / dv9700 /
im just wondering if this will work. sorry im newbie here.
thank you

Hi, Noel:
It should work just fine.
I don't know why HP left the dv6700 Intel model series off the list.
It would be the same as the dv9700 model series.
The dv9700 is the 17.1" display version of the dv6700.

Hello sir Paul.
thank you for your quick reply.
one more thing...it is possible to update only the chipset driver instead of both bios and chipset to be updated?
because im after only to update the SATA AHCI controller. which is better approach?
thank you.

You're very welcome, Noel.
Yes, you can update the chipset driver without updating the BIOS.
I am still very surprised the SSD didn't just work right away.
The problem is that if it isn't being detected in the BIOS, I don't see how updating the chipset driver is going to help.

Hi Sir Paul,
Thank you for your continues reply.
as far as the bios of my laptop is concerned, sata or ahci dont have the option to enable it. even the boot option order the HDD name or brand is not detected also so no chance for me to make my SSD boot priority first. i guess update bios is my option to make. but i am afraid to take the chances maybe somehow my bios will not boot after i upgrade it or flash it with latest update. any chance to backup bios. anyway i will let you know what will be the outcome.
thank you.

You're very welcome, Noel:
Since you don't have a working hard drive with Windows installed, you can't see the fact that AHCI is already enabled by default.
If you had Windows working, you would see under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers device manager category, an Intel SATA AHCI controller enabled.
As I wrote, I have no idea why the Kingston drive isn't being seen in your notebook.
I have a HP business class notebook with the same chipset as yours (HP 6910p), and I installed a 120 GB PNY SSD in it, and it worked just fine. I had the latest BIOS installed, so I can't say what would have happened if I didn't.
I installed this model PNY drive...
