OMEN by HP - 15-dc0107tx
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello all! I have already replaced the SATA 2.5 inch drive with a Seagate Barracuda 2 TB drive on my HP Omen 15 DC0107TX. Now I am looking to upgrade the SSD from the factory default. I am looking at the  Western Digital Black SN850X NVMe SSD , 1TB model. Just wondering whether this has any compatibility issues or would it work fine.

If anyone has an idea about it, I would like to know about it. Don't want to invest in a new drive and find that it doesn't work properly in my laptop.

Hi:

The Western Digital Black SN850X NVMe SSD 1TB drive should work fine, but since your notebook's M.2 slot is only PCIe Gen 3.0, the SN850X will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speeds from your notebook's M.2 SSD slot.

This table shows the maximum transfer speeds each PCIe slot generation can provide:

Thanks for your reply! And yes, that was a point in consideration. The thing is that the cost between PCIE 3 and PCIE 4 disks is very nominal. To compare for SK Hynix Gold NVME SSD (which seems a better choice than others due to its better thermal management abilities):

SK Hynix P31 PCIE 3, 1TB - Rs. 8145

SK Hynix P41 PCIE 4, 1TB - Rs. 8780

So what makes sense? Would the PCIE 4 disks run more hot than the PCIE 3?

You're very welcome.

I have read about the Hynix Gold drives being among the coolest running drives on the market.

I think they would run at about the same temperature since the Gen 4.0 SSD will not be running at its maximum advertised read/write speeds.

Maybe it would even run cooler than the Gen 3.  Who knows?
