Pavilion G4 1065la
Linux

Hi. Would like to know. I got a HP Pavilion G4 1065la which I intend to upgrade with one of these mainboards

Part # 681045-001 (System board for use only with computer models equipped with the Intel HM65 chipset and agraphics subsystem with 1024-MB of discrete video memory and NVIDIA GeForce GT 610M)

Part # 676209-001 (System board for use only with computer models equipped with the Intel HM65 chipset and agraphics subsystem with 1024-MB of discrete video memory and NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M)

Part # 650199-001 (System board for use only with computer models equipped with the Intel HM65 chipset, anIntel processor, and a graphics subsystem with 1024-MB of discrete video memory (includes replacement thermal material))

1. What is the difference between those 3 mainboards? Do all of them use NVidia graphics? Is any of those a switchable/optimus graphics thing (which I prefer not have since I want the NVidia graphics as the one handling the display)?

2. Is this processor (http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i7_Mobile/i7-3612QE.html) compatible with that board (according to cpu-upgrade.com it IS compatible with the HM65 chipset and have the same TDP as the processors in this laptop's manual) I ask because although technically it should work I need to know if this laptop have any BIOS limitation in place to ensure that you don't get to use a quad-core, hyperthreaded intel cpu on a pavilion laptop of the colored series.

3. Can I use 16gb of RAM. The hm65 express chipset does support it (2x8gb configuration). But I needed, again, to know if the BIOS was intentionally crippled.

4. Can I put this https://www.amazon.com/B140HAN03-3-WUXGA-FHD-Screen-Replacement/dp/B07BGD82J1 display in place of the 14" HD one? Or is the BIOS also going to limit me in that respect as well.

And if it is simply impossible to get this far on a Pavilion G4. Is there any model of ProBook or EliteBook that have QC+HT i7, 16GB or more of RAM, FHD display and NVidia GPU and that have the same red/blue/purple with black/grey chassis that the pavilion G4/G6/G7 have?

5. Is any of these 2 power adapters

609940-00190-W PFC RC V HP Smart AC adapter for use with all computer models

609947-00190-W PFC RC V EM HP Smart AC adapter for use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor

Safe to use (that is. IS not among the models of power adapters affected by this https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-g4-1000-notebook-pc-series/5046252/model/5096177/do... recall?)

@Ptero4 Greetings from the HP Community!

I'm afraid HP does not support or recommend changing the system board, Display or the Processor of your device, as it may render the same unstable, although, if you have to, you may do the same at your own discretion via the help of a local tech, etc...

As for the RAM, it looks like your device supports to a max of 8GB (As shown in the image below)

For more details: click here

And using the factory shipped power adapter is recommended.

I hope that answers your query,

The system board I wanted to use as repalcement IS in the G4-1065la manual. The processor is compatible with that system board's chipset according to the cpu-upgrade website and the max ram for that chipset according to intel's website IS 16gb. Essentially my Pavilion G4 1065la WITH IT'S CURRENT system board which uses a hm55 chipset ONLY supports 8gb, but the hm65 chipset does support 16gb of ram. My question was more in terms of whether the BIOS was DELIBERATEDLY crippled and if so which model of ProBook or EliteBook uses the same colored chassis as the G4, G6 and G7 lines of Pavilion laptop while having the QC-HT i7, 16gb ram, FHD display and NVidia GPU.

@Ptero4 You may click here to be re-directed to the HP store for business notebooks and browse the options, if you've got questions related to the same, scroll down and click on 'contact us, now', for more details, as we currently support HP consumer notebooks alone, and hence, do not have the information you need about ProBook or EliteBook as they are both business notebooks.

I hope that helps!

Good luck.
