I think I might go with SATA SSD later on, since I am not sure I wanna suffer another windows reinstall.

I did notice one thing, the RAM, while the improvement in general is obvious, it seems wasn't the main issue.
It looks like the CPU struggles a few times, whenever there is a number of "new situations" developing (namely in the games), and even on the games that are relatively low on requirements.

The impression it left on me previously felt obvious RAM issue, however, reading a bit it seems it simply is CPU struggling,
I'm now looking at CPU upgrade (if that is even possible, which doesn't seem too bright of a prospect).

Any ideas?

Hate to jump in as @Paul_Tikkanen has done his usual masterful job of getting you to a memory upgrade, but back to your original inquiry about gaming performance. Upgrading storage to an NVME M.2 and upgrading memory will make the laptop perform quite well on ordinary tasks. The CPU cannot be upgraded nor can the GPU. Both are soldered to the motherboard and there is no alternate motherboard which would be worth the sizeable cost. Your GeForce 960M GPU was at best a lower mid-level video chip when it came out. The science has continued to evolve and games are more demanding. There is I am sorry to say nothing you can do to make it perform significantly better on gaming.

Yeah, unfortunately, well aware of GPU age/limitations.
Oh well, I guess I will have to manage until I can start rebuilding the PC. 🙂
