Hello!

I currently have the default 8GB RAM with which I bought this laptop 3 years ago.  I know there is one free memory slot in my laptop but I got confused how much max RAM can this machine support with both slots running.

Internet tells me that I can have 16GB RAM in total while when I type in cmd

"wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity, MemoryDevices"

I get:
MaxCapacity                 MemoryDevices
33554432                     2

So my question is, can I safely buy 2x 16GB RAM and install it in my laptop OR do I have to stick with a single 1x 8GB RAM upgrade?

Hi:

The Crucial memory report indicates 2 x 8 GB is the max for that model series.

Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | hp - compaq | hp omen 15 | HP OMEN 15 (Model Numbers 15-ce000 - 15-ce099...

The HP service manual indicates 2 x 8 GB is the max for the model series...see chapter 1.

Theoretically, there is a chance that 2 x 16 GB would work because the processor your notebook has is the HQ processor and runs the memory at 2400 MHz, where the standard 7th gen Intel core processors only run the memory at 2133 Mhz.

The processor specs indicate it can support 64 GB of memory...that would be with 4 memory slots.

Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz) Product Specifications

Since your notebook only has 2 memory slots, 2 x 16 GB is not out of the realm of possibility.

My recommendation...put one toe in the water and buy a 16 GB memory chip.  Add it to the 8 GB chip and if the notebook boots up, runs fine and reports 24 GB of memory, go ahead and buy the second chip.

This would be a compatible 16 GB memory chip to try...

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance, and thanks for letting us know that 2 x 16 GB of memory works in notebooks in that model series that come with the i7-7700HQ processors.
