HP Pavilion 15-n051sm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I am trying to find out if I can upgrade RAM on my HP Pavilion, since it is too slow lately. Model is 15-n051sm and I never upgraded RAM on this one before, meaning, it has one slot of 4GB Kingston 1600MHz.

I would like to upgrade to at least 16 GB. Attached please see the model I would like  to buy. I recently installed OEM WIndows 10 64-bit, upgraded laptop with an SSD which I use for windows only and it is still slow. Opening chrome, firefox, videos - takes way too long.

Hi,

Yes, you can insert an 8GB module together with the 4GB module for a total of 12GB of RAM.

The RAM you linked is the correct RAM and should work.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

It supports max 16GB (2x8GB) of DDR3L 1600MHz RAM

There are two slots. You can purchase from your preferred brand. The ones you linked are DDR3 and not DDR3L so they might not work.

Hi David,

thank you for you response. I found variety of Crucial RAM’s online and compared them to the one you provided at the link. The one I found is lot cheaper so, before ordering, I just want to check if my system will support it.

Please check the photo below

It seems to be more than 50% cheaper, which is why I would rather buy this one.

Yes. Those should work.

Yes, better not to buy from Crucial site as they are cheaper online.

Hi,

I figured out I will not need 16GB of RAM since this laptop is being used for general web browsing and some movies.

Should one 8 GB RAM work along with 1 slot of 4 GB in the laptop. The one I found is below.
