HP 110-3730NR
Linux

Dear all,

I still have an 8-years old Netbook HP 110-3730NR. Even running the light Puppy Linux, it's very slow, almost useless, and I'd like to know if it's possible to do any upgrade that would render it at least useful for web browsing and text processing with a "normal" Linux distribution, like Manjaro XFCE.

These are its configurations: Intel Atom N455 1,66GHz / 2Gb RAM / HD 250Gb

Can I upgrade RAM to 4Gb? Will this make a difference? If so, which model of RAM should I buy?

Can I upgrade the hard disk to a faster model (e.g. SSD)?

Any other tip? Do you think it's worth the effort?

Thanks!

Hi

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-mini-110-3700-pc-series/5082187/model/5118914/product-info

Memory
1GB DDR3 System Memory (1 DIMM)
Memory Max
Maximum supported = 1GB

Other than a LITE distro (Linux Lite, Lubuntu or Peppermint) you may be in a Cul-de-Sac.

So, no upgrade possible, right?

(Besides, if this netbook supports maximum 1GB RAM, I'm wondering why it was sold with 2GB. Maybe I was just fooled by the seller store...)

Indeed. It seems that there are both versions. Now I just have to find out if it supports an upgrade to 4GB and if there's any possibility to upgrade it to a faster hard drive (or SSD).

Apologies, but I best bow out, as I know less than nothing about SSD's.

I rather think you will have many hours of experimentation.

Bye.

According to this page (https://www.memorystock.com/memory/HewlettPackardMini1103730nr.html), it doesn't support more than 2GB RAM. So I think it's the end of the line for this old warrior...
