I've been facing annoying problems with my laptop: sometimes, Windows stops responding to mouse clicks but the pointer continues to move. The problem persists whether I am using a Bluetooth mouse, wired mouse or the tracking pad. Now, pressing the apostrophe key does not give me the apostrophe at first but when I press it again, I get two apostrophes. At times, my computer behaves as if I am holding the Control key when I am clearly not. Weird problems, cropping up one after the other. Even resetting the PC did not work. Running a DISM command solves the mouse issue most of the time but all these glitches, which are frequent, have made the PC unreliable. I cannot take an online test with it. I was wondering if changing the entire motherboard will help. This is an i5-6th Gen machine. I want an i7-11th Gen since I'll be editing videos and all. Can HP Pavilion laptops be upgraded in this manner? And will upgrading help me get rid of these weird glitches?

Hi:
You can only upgrade to one of the motherboards listed in chapter 3 of the service manual for your notebook.
It would be both very difficult and very expensive to do such an upgrade, and it appears that you already have the best processor offered in the model series.
You could replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" SSD, and if you have not added more memory than the 4 GB you have now, adding another 4 GB would help considerably as well.

Thank you for the insights. I will go for a new laptop then. I already have added 8 GB RAM and now enjoy the speed offered by 12 GB RAM total. But these glitches with mouse and certain keys... Apart from these reasons, I don't want to give up these PC at all. Sigh...
