This is my first time here so please guide me as best you can.

I have a HP Spectre x360 14, with an Intel (R) Wifi 6 AX201 160MhZ wifi adapter.

Recently, nearly every time I either wake my laptop up from sleep, or turn it on, the WIFI tab from the quick settings has disappeared and the Wifi adapter stops responding. In the device manager it has a yellow warning triangle and the only way I can troubleshoot it is to uninstall the wifi adapter, restart the laptop and reinstall the wifi adapter.

However, this is becoming very irritating to do it every time I want to use my laptop.

Has anyone had this issue before?

@Dangermouse87, Thanks for getting back to us and for trying those steps already — I know it must be frustrating to open your laptop, expecting to hop online, and instead be greeted by that little yellow triangle.

Since you’ve ruled out the software side, the next check is indeed on the hardware. When you open up your Spectre, you’ll want to look and feel for a couple of things around the Wi-Fi card:

Connection seating: Make sure the Wi-Fi card is firmly slotted into its connector. Sometimes even the tiniest looseness can cause it to “disappear” after wake-up.

Antenna cables: You should see two thin, delicate wires clipped onto the card. Check they’re snug and not wiggling free.

Signs of stress: Look for anything unusual — bent pins, burn marks, or a faint smell of heat damage near the card.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP Spectre x360's WiFi adapter!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're experiencing issues with your HP Spectre x360's WiFi adapter, such as the WiFi tab disappearing from quick settings and the adapter showing a warning in Device Manager, here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

  1. Update Drivers:

    • Ensure that all your device drivers are up to date. You can use the HP Support Assistant for this, which can automatically check for the latest updates for your device drivers.
    • You can launch HP Support Assistant by searching for it in the Start menu or selecting the icon from the taskbar if it's already been used before. HP Support Assistant
  2. Use Windows Update:

    • Run Windows Update to ensure your system is up to date. For this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  3. Reset Network Settings:

    • Reset your network settings by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network reset.
  4. Device Manager Troubleshooting:

    • In Device Manager, try updating the driver directly by right-clicking the WiFi adapter, selecting "Update driver," and choosing "Search automatically for updated driver software."
  5. Power Management Settings:

    • Sometimes power management settings can cause the WiFi adapter to be disabled during sleep. Go to Device Manager, right-click on your WiFi adapter and select Properties. Under the Power Management tab, ensure "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
  6. Check for Hardware Issues:

    • Ensure there's no physical issue with the WiFi card.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi there,

Thank you for the reply.

I have performed steps 1-5, however there is no change. The adapter shows the warning and the wifi tab from the quick settings still disappears.

The only thing I haven't done is open my laptop up, which will be my next step.

What kind of physical issues should I be looking for in particular?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, i've got a similar problem! I will paste here my resolution for HP ProBook 460 G11, take this for and example and try some workaround. I've got a similar problem, but my card disappear after wake up from Modern Standby, and reappear after reboot:

Based on my tests, I can confirm that the problem lies between Modern Standby (maybe changed with the July Microsoft Update) and the driver.

You can disable standby and use Hibernate instead.

However, if you don't want to make that change, I've resolved the issue by doing the following:

BIOS Changes:

  • BIOS → Advanced → Power Options → Extended Idle Power States (change from ON to OFF)

  • BIOS → Advanced → Power Options → Runtime Power Management (change from ON to OFF)

Note:

I tried both options individually, but they didn't work. The fix only worked when both options were deactivated.

With these changes, the laptop won't shut down peripherals when it wants to save power.

Of course, this will result in higher battery consumption. We can try to see later if a patch comes out that allows these options to be re-enabled.

If you want to replicate my settings, download the latest Wi-Fi Driver AX211 from Intel's site: 23.160.0.4 (21/07/2025). Make sure to perform a clean installation (uninstall and remove it from Device Manager before installing the new one). I don't think this will change anything, but it's worth a try.

Please let me know if anyone else has resolved the issue by deactivating these options in the BIOS. It might help other people.

Important Edit

One Laptop seemed to be working correctly, while the other still had the same issue. I double-checked the working laptop and found there was still something wrong:

  • Many errors in the Windows event log.

  • After waking from standby, the network card would disconnect and then reconnect (very strange).

I tried this workaround: I created a registry key (reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 0), restarted the PC, and set the Wireless Adapter to "maximum performance" in the power plan settings in the Control Panel.

Finally, in Device Manager, I right-clicked the card, went to Properties > Power Management, and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Now the error logs are gone, and the network card works immediately after resuming from standby. Maybe this last step was all that was needed?
