Hi
I would like to replace my ho envy hard drive it is showing as preparing for automatic repair. And I am out of warranty and go is not giving any proper response. After looking into the postal I realize that I can get some help from here. Can some one help me with the possible ways and which hard drive would be the right choice for the laptop and do I have to buy the new windows os again.

Hi:
What is the product number of your notebook?
The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.
Please do not post the serial number.
You do not have to re-purchase W10. You can reinstall it for free as follows after you replace the hard drive.
You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...
Select Download tool now, and select Run.If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.
Select which media you want to use:
USB flash drive. Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Sure here is my product number 2GJ37AV
HP ENVYX360
It's a 1tb hard disk and 12 gb ram.
Is it possible to install the faster SSD instead of the HDR.
Do I have to copy the windows from the similar kind of hp laptop or any other brands would be fine?

Hi:
Yes you can install a SSD instead of the 1 TB mechanical hard drive.
That will provide better performance put out less heat, and probably is more reliable than a regular hard drive.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. The HDD R & R procedure can be found in chapter 5.

I can only recommend the SSD's I have installed in my HP notebook's and PC's.
For price and performance this is the best, IMO.
You can find better performing ones, but not at this price...
You'll have to read the service manual regarding what size tools screwdrivers, etc you will need.
Normally a set of jeweler's screwdrivers will suffice.
But I highly recommend you get a set of notebook pry tools to separate the plastic case.
It's just not going to easily come apart after you remove the screws.
You may also have to peel off rubber strips or feet to get to some of these screws, and a set pry tools will facilitate that task as well.
Something like this...

Any brand 2.5" x 7.0mm SSD should work.
If you want to find a SSD that with guaranteed compatibility, check the Crucial site...
