I bought two Chromebooks in late Mar or early April 2020 when schools closed. Less than 1 year later, one of them will not power on. I tried the other adapter. I also used this adapter on the working one. The Chromebook is dead. When I meter the S/N in the warranty section, it shows the warranty expired at least 4 month PRIOR to me purchasing it. Is there anything I can do? What is the expected life? Should I expect the other Chromebook to die soon, too?

as long as you have the proof of purchase and registered the ChromeBook, the standard factory warranty of one year should still be valid.
Follow the instructions in the HP document at the link below this lime to dispute the warranty date. HP is aware that this does happen.
