Hp notebook 14

I'm having a problem with opening my hp notebook 14, the CAPS key is blinking 5 times slow then 3 times fast. I was wondering If I can still avail warranty even if I just open the lid of the laptop. But I assure that I didn't scratch nor damaged anything, aside from that I took the ram to check for any troubles, is that a disqualification for warranty?

Thank u

Hi  @steve_hardy123

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand your concern about both the startup issue and your warranty eligibility.

The Caps Lock blinking 5 times slow and 3 times fast is an important diagnostic code on HP notebooks and is often related to a hardware component that may require further troubleshooting. Regarding your warranty question, simply opening the bottom cover to inspect components such as the RAM does not automatically void the warranty in many regions, provided there is no physical damage caused during the process. However, warranty eligibility can vary depending on your country and the warranty terms applicable to your device.

To better assist you, could you kindly share:

  • Does the notebook power on at all, or is the screen completely blank?
  • Have you noticed any fan activity, keyboard backlight activity, or charging LED indicators when attempting to start the notebook?

In the meantime, kindly try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Perform a Hard Reset - Click here for steps
    • Turn off the notebook.
    • Disconnect the charger.
    • Press and hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds.
    • Reconnect the charger and try powering on the notebook.
  2. Attempt BIOS Recovery - Click here for steps
    • Turn the notebook off.
    • Press and hold Windows + B keys.
    • While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds, then release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B for a few more seconds.
    • If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions.

Kindly refer to the link for the HP document Computer beeps or a light blinks during startup - click here

I hope this helps.

Greetings!

Based on my observation, whenever I open my laptop, the CAPS and power button is the only blinking, the screen remains black, aside from that when I tried to charge my laptop, the charging indicator still functioning, there's still a light

In regards on the hard reset and bios. I tried hard resetting this laptop but nothing happens, it remains black. On bios, I tried the windows + B and the power button, and based on my observation whenever I click the windows and B and the power button at the same time, the power button light dies immediately. Still, the screen is black.

Is there other way to fix this without opening the lid? or should I stop and avail the warranty on the store I bought this

Hi @steve_hardy123<

Thank you for the update and for confirming the symptoms.

Since the notebook shows a black screen, the Caps Lock LED continues to blink with the 5 slow and 3 fast pattern, the hard reset did not resolve the issue, and the BIOS recovery procedure was unsuccessful, this points to a hardware-related condition that may require further diagnosis.

At this stage, I would recommend that you stop further troubleshooting and avoid opening the notebook, especially if the unit is still covered under warranty. As mentioned earlier, opening the bottom cover for inspection does not automatically void the warranty in many regions; however, since the notebook is not booting and warranty service may be available, it is best to have the device evaluated by HP.
