Please help

I've purchased 4 different SSDs but my laptop (2-3yrs old) does not recognise them.

So far I've tried:

Crucial - P5 Plus 1000GB PCIe M.2 2280SS SSD

Kingston - 1000GB PCIe M.2 2280SS SSD

Crucial - P3 500GB 3.0 NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD

Crucial - P3 1TB 3.0 NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD

None of the above have been recognised.

I've used HP laptops only for the past 15yrs + and never encountered such headache to upgrade.

HP shows L52006-001 in the book, but this doesn't seem to exist anywhere.

This is not good HP.

You're very welcome.

OK, that's the problem-- Intel Pentium 6405U processor does not support NVMe SSD's.

I recommend this model for your notebook if you want a 1 TB one...

WD Blue SA510 1TB M.2 SATA SSD with up to 560MB/s read speed : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Hi:

What model processor does your notebook have?

What type of SSD did it originally come with--SATA or NVMe?

Unless the notebook has an Intel core processor a NVMe SSD is not supported.

Only M.2 SATA SSD's are supported in the notebooks that come with Pentium or Celeron processors.

Hi,

CPU Model is Intel Pentium 6405U processor

Laptop was supplied with SATA 128GB SSD (SPS: L52003-001)

I've tried NVMe M.2 SSD without any success. I've bought and tried the following without success. I still have them.

Crucial P5 Plus 1000GB PCIe M.2 2280SS SSD
Kingston 1000GB PCIe M.2 2280SS SSD
Crucial P3 500GB 3.0 NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD

Thanks

Anytime, Richard.

Glad to have been of assistance and I'm looking forward to reading about the results of your installing a SATA M.2 SSD in your notebook.

Cheers,

Paul,

You're a star. You just put me out of my misery just like that.

I got the SSD from ebay. cheaper :). Fitted it this morning and it was recognised without problems.

I can now proceed with my project which I've been struggling with due to this SSD saga over the past 4 weeks or so.

Shame on HP for their lack of information. I've been through all my documentation and couldn't find anything there. And when I tried to contact them, it was impossible.

Shame on Crucial who listed the wrong SSD as sompatible with my laptop. So many of these businesses now fail us routinely. I wish them all the luck in the world.

Anyway, back to the real star.

Thanks once again.

You're very welcome, Richard.

Glad that the M.2 SATA SSD worked for you.

Yes, the service manual is pretty enigmatic regarding what SSD's are supported.

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC

Chapter 1 indicates for M.2 SATA SSD...select products only.

For NVMe SSD's there is no disqualifier, leaving anyone to assume that a NVMe SSD is supported in the model series.

What HP should have done was to maintain consistency in how they write the manuals.

For example, in this model, it is specific regarding what PC's support NVMe SSD's in chapter 1.

Notebooks with the Intel Core processors only.

Cheers,
