Just purchased a HP Laptop 17t-cn300.  I don't see an option for a standard docking station and I see warnings that the USB-C on the laptop does not support video.  Is there a recommended non-HPE docking solution that will work?

Hi @Mike_Ewell

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the situation—it can feel limiting when a new laptop doesn’t appear to support the traditional docking options you may have expected.

Thank you for already checking the USB-C capabilities and confirming that video output isn’t supported on your HP Laptop 17t‑cn300.

Let’s go through the best way forward together.

For this model, the most reliable solution is to use an HP docking station that connects through USB‑A or USB‑C for data and power, while video output is handled through the laptop’s native HDMI port. This ensures stable performance and compatibility.

Recommended HP docking options:

  • HP USB-C/A Universal Dock G2 – This dock works with both USB‑C and USB‑A connections, giving flexibility for data, peripherals, and charging. Video connections can be managed directly from the laptop’s HDMI port.

  • HP USB-C Dock G5 – Provides multiple USB ports, Ethernet, and charging support. Since your laptop’s USB‑C does not support video, you would continue to use the HDMI port on the laptop for external displays.

Important note: We can only suggest HP docking solutions that have been tested for compatibility. We cannot provide recommendations for third‑party docks, as they are not validated for use with your device.

With these docks, you’ll still enjoy the convenience of connecting peripherals, networking, and charging through a single hub, while using the HDMI port for your monitor or TV.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
