If you mix brands and densities (single and double sided) then you run into a greater chance of the notebook refusing to boot up.

That is why it is considered to be a best practice to always put in identical modules(in every respect) when upgrading memory in a laptop ofr desktop PC.

DDR3L-1600 (Transfer rates up to 1600 MT/s)Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory
2GB,4GB, and 8 GB SODIMMs *
Maximum
16GB

If you want the upgrade to 8GB to go without issue, then install two identical 4GB  Guaranteed compatible memory modules.

Do not mix match memory modules in any way unless you don't mind losing time and perhaqps being frustrated by your notebook's blue screens and not booting to Windows.

From the Service Manual:

PC3L-12800, 1600-MHz, DDR3L SODIMMs  Supports the following configurations: ● 16384 MB (8192 × 2; dual channel) ● 12288 MB (8192 + 4096; dual channel) ● 8192 MB (8192 × 1) ● 8192 MB (4096 × 2; dual channel)

So answering the first question also answers the second. You need DDR3L-1600 which is low voltage 1.35 volts. You SHOULD NOT install 1.5 volt memory and you should match the existing module in terms of latency and density as well.

4-GB 691740-001

Above is the specified module by part number.

I am getting conflicting information as to whether this is low or high density. 4 or 8 black blocks on the side.

Here is one with 4 blocks:

Here is one with 8:

Match what you have already.

I agree it is best to just buy 2 identical modules. But that will cost twice as much. If you have to buy just one module to match an existing module then you have to pull out the existing module, examine it and match its characteristics as closely as possible or find another one just like it. If you are going to upgrade you have to access the memory anyway so why not pull out the one module you have before you buy more memory?
