Laptop 17-ca0054cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This laptop has an AMD A9-9425 processor and came with 12 GB of memory, 8 in slot 1 and 4 in slot 2.  I would like to upgrade mesmory to at least 16GB, which would seem possible but don't want to purchase more memory if the laptop won't accommodate it. My question is, what is the max memory that this computer can realistically benefit from?

The max you can install is 16. Maximum is never in my experience achieved with mismatched modules. If it can take one 8 gig and there is another slot it can take another 8 gig. As to whether increasing from 12 gb to 16 gb would do you any good here is a KB article recently added to the collection:

Memory is DDR4-2400 but will downclock to 1866 speed with the AMD A9 processor models.
