Yes. Since the i7-2620M processor is mentioned in the Service Guide means it has been tested with this Notebook Model and is compatible

Is the I7 640M compatible I have looked at that and have no idea which is compatible. I want to put the i7 640m in this laptop.   Specs seem identical but I need to know what bios to use and if its compatible.   I have been at this for a week now and have gotten no where.

The HP Pavilion G6-1B71HE has been tested with the i7-2620M processor but not with the i7 640M

There shouldn't be any issues using the i7 640M Processor but HP cannot guarantee the functionality or performance since it has not been tested with this Model

It is also recommended to update to the latest available BIOS

You said it's been tested with the 2620m that would mean that its compatible correct?

The latest BIOS F.37 was released on Mar 18, 2013 and it seems you already have the latest BIOS. 😊
