I would like to ask about what ram and HDD's are compatible with my laptop. For the ram, I'm guessing it's DDR4 ram maximum of 32 Gb 260 pins memory. I don't know about the HDD. Also, is there anyway possible that I could change my laptop's motherboard?

You can definitely change the motherboard given enough money and the right skills, but the issue is whether there is any better motherboard from that series that would fit in the laptop. Memory is DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM and unofficially but certainly it will take 32 gigs if it is an Intel Core processor and not Pentium or Celeron. It can accept a 2.5 inch SATA 7 or 9.5mm HDD or SSD as long as it had that already and the mounting and attachment hardware is already present and also has an M.2 slot for an M.2 SATA SSD; again if it is an Intel Core and not one of the budget processors.
Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

i3 processor so can take 32 gigs DDR4-2400 and should have an M.2 slot but smart to open it before buying upgrade parts. Good luck.

OK.
As @Huffer already mentioned above
You can install 16GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM (2x8GB)
EX

On page 50 of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05493257
You should have at least 8GB for good performance.
You can replace the 2.5 HDD with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD such as the Crucial MX500 or similar.
Then reinstall the OS

Hope it helps,
