Hi,
I am reinstalling my drivers for the hp dv6-2173cl laptop. This laptop has both LAN and WiFi cards. I looked at the driver listing for this model and I see that for the WIFI drivers HP has:
Atheros and Broadcom drivers available.
I let Windows Update decide and it installed an Intel WiFi Link driver that is not even listed on the HP's website. I
Do I need to install either Atheros or Boardcom WiFi Driver for this model? I am worried that perhaps the Intel driver is a generic driver that makes the card work but does not optimize its performance as the dedicated drivers do.
How do I tell wHich brand for the wifi card I have?
Thanks,

You're very welcome.
You need the JMicron card reader driver for your model.
You don't need the Intel Matrix Storage manager driver.
The Intel matrix storage manager driver is used for raid drive configurations.
I could not find a W7 driver for your card from Intel. Either the site is down or they don't support the card anymore.
It just states they don't provide phone, chat or emal support for that card.
So, here is the latest driver I could find from HP.
If it is newer than what windows update installed, then you may want to install it.

Hi:
If the intel driver installed and is working, then that is the only one you need, since you have an Intel card.
If you let me know what model intel wifi card your notebook has, I will post the link to the latest W7 driver for it.
To find that info, go to the device manager and click to expand the Network Adapters device category.
There you will find the name and model number of the Intel wireless adapter.

Thanks for a quick reply. Below is the current listing for the network devices found on the computer. Let me know if there are any other updated drivers that I need to install.
Also, while we are on this topic, I also have 5-in-1 card reader. HP however lists two possible drivers. Again, how do I konw which hardware piece I have: JMicron or Realtek?
And what is Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver used for? is it applicable to my model? dv6-2173cl?
Many thanks for your help!!

Thanks!!
I installed my JMicron driver the card reader and now I do not have any unknown devices. Finally, it looks like all drivers are installed. 🙂 Thanks Paul!!
I also went ahead and installed version 15.0 for the WIFI Link driver. My driver name went from "Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN" to "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000".
I also found the following Intel website with what could be a version 19 of the driver.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26242/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windo...
is this appropriate for my machine? Should I install it?
Thanks!!

Thanks Paul!
last night I actually went ahead and downloaded the Intel® Driver Update Utility. I scanned the WiFi cards with it and it decided to updgrade me to version 15.11 I believe. It also added couple other drivers. I will post the screenshot later one today.
Thanks again for all your help!! With your help my laptop is now back to life and is fully operational. 🙂
Thanks!!
