Envy x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I work at a medical clinic and when we dispose of computers that have been damaged I have to take out the hard drive and have it shredded.  This laptop, which is pretty new and it is by far the best model we have had yet, has no physical hard drive that I can see.  I have to make sure, so I don't just throw it in the trash and completely miss the hard drive. I am guessing the Envy has the solid state HD built into the mother board? is there a chip somewhere? Would they have it located behind the screen?  I am not sure, but I have to be sure.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for that model series.

The SSD R & R procedure can be found in chapter 5.

Hi:

You will have to look at the service manual for your specific model 360 convertible.

There are literally hundreds of different model variations.

Enter the full model number or product number in the box at the link below to find the support page for the specific PC you are working with.

https://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en

On the user guides section of the support page, there will be a maintenance and service guide, which will provide the hard drive or solid state drive removal procedures.

@Paul_Tikkanen,

Thanks Paul. I was looking it up while you typed.

@Glen1971,

Service manual pages 6 and 23. Page 23 item 7 (hard drive)  or 13 (NVMe M.2 SSD)

If it is serviceable, why not a full recovery that would erase and re-install?

Nope... The user guide did not say anything about the physical hard drive and its location. Thank you though, I do appreciate your input.

You're very welcome.

What is the full model number or product number of the notebook?

The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.

Please do not post the serial number.

The machine was physically damaged and cannot be recovered. It would cost way more than the laptop is worth to fix it.  I was hoping to put the hard drive in another HP computer, but there is no physical hard drive to switch it to.  Due to the requirements from HIPAA, we have to dispose of the hard drive, shred it, dump acid on it, take it to the shooting range, or go all Office Space on it.

Thanks though.  I appreciate the info.

thank you!

I found it. I can't believe THAT part is the hard drive.  It doesn't look like I will be able to put that into another machine, which is a bummer.

A note to others: Don't forget to zip your back pack, because when you have to bend over to tie your kid's shoe, that laptop cannot withstand being flipped out and dropped on a corner.

Thank you both for your efforts.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.
