Comparing HP to ASUS and Dell is like comparing apples to oranges. HP is the largest PC maker on the planet.

Your notebook does support 16GB of installed memory.

Always install memory in pairs of identical modules unless you don't mind if one or the other moduleis not recognized as installed by the OS and BIOS.

What you asked about in terms of using an original memory module plus a new and different one is not likely to work.

See the following web page at Crucial Memory for guaranteed compatible memory modules.

15 inch notebook have a single hard disk bay.

Use google as I did. The following document has the specifications of your notebook.

I'm looking for more information than that. That just tells me the basic specs. It uses 1 8gb and 1 4gb stick of ram. Does the motherboard support 16gb of RAM if I want to replace the 4gb stick with an 8?

Asus and Dell both offer all the information about every piece of your laptop from the make and model to the specs of each piece.

Thank you. I figure if I get the a second 8gb stick of RAM that is the same as the one in the laptop it would be fine.
