Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

2 customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots

Supports dual-channel memory

PC3, 1066 MHz front side bus (FSB), DDR3

Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM

So your max is 2 x 4 gig modules like this:

Memory modules, PC3, 1066-MHz FSB ■ 4096-MB 579156-001

This would work:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/4GB-DDR3-Sodimm-PC3-10600-Memory-Ram-Module-HP-Envy-14-15-17-DV6-DV7-/152509...

Needs to be DDR3-1066 and it needs to be low density 8 black blocks on the side of the module.

How to is on p. 4-10 of the Manual (not hard at all).
