HP Probook 240 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, so I'm new to this SSD business. So, my HP 240 G6 got an M.2 slot for SSD. Since I'm new, I don't know which key is it. But there's only one key on my left hand side, so it must be either M or B key. Now, should I get an NVMe SSD like Samsung 970 or should I just get a M.2 SATA like Samsung 860?

I have read the manual here, but it doesn't seem to help with the key information or what kind of SSD it supports. It only says "1x M.2 slot for SSD.".

My laptop is HP 240 G6, Core i3 6006U version. Thanks.

Hi:

I looked at the service manual for the 250 G6, which is the 15.6" screen model version of yours.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05485525

That manual lists the supported M.2 SSD's with their HP part numbers.

I entered the part number for the 512 GB M.2 SSD listed into the HP Partsurfer website, and it indicates the drive is of the SATA III type.

I would have to assume that your notebook uses the same type M.2 SSD.

Hi,

It supports as previously advised Sata 3. Or m.2 ssd sata.
Now, the change over will NOT be that simple!
Now you have NOT advised if you already have an SSD or HDD in your laptop. If it is a HDD you will also need a few more things besides the drive itself.
"M.2 solid-state drive adapter bracket and connector board
NOTE: You can install an M.2 solid-state drive into the hard drive bay using an adapter bracket and
connector board.
Description Spare part number
Solid-state drive board 924992-001
Solid-state drive bracket 924981-001"

This is from "1040138038.pdf".

Now, as per: https://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c05488706.pdf

"up to 30 GB (for Windows 10) is reserved for system recovery software."

You will need to CLONE the HDD/ SSD first to the SSD using ANOTHER computer.

The reason is, that there is a partition that is there that has all the back ups of software etc. This is very important.

So, before you go opening up the laptop, I would highly suggest you brush up on your cloning skills and then proceed.

Good luck.
