For as long as I have had this laptop my second hard drive has sat dormat. I have two 1TB hard drives, the first is about half way full, but the second is and has always been completely empty. Is there any way that I can put this second hard drive to use? Maybe for file backups? Or will it only be useful when I fill my first hard drive? Will I simply be able to start writing data onto the second hard drive with no difficulty in transition (i.e. all I have to do is click a button that says save to *hard drive 2*"? Any special steps required?

Hello @Nathanv,
Welcome to FORUM !!!
The drive which has the operating system, becomes the Primary drive.
Now the other drive that you mentioned becomes secondary drive. Its as equal that you have a External drive connecting to your PC for the back up.
However to avoid connecting/disconnecting externaly, jazz. The second drive is mounted inside the unit for your convience.
You may manage the space accordingly on the both drives and move files to either of the drives.
Make sure you will not fill the Primary drive completely. It will make the laptop slow.
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !!
