Hi @Artteacher7,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop is showing an error that the fan is not working. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power cycle the laptop
– Shut down the laptop completely, unplug the charger, and remove the battery if possible.
– Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then reconnect power and turn it on. This can clear temporary sensor errors.

Check for dust or debris
– Dust inside the cooling vents or around the fan can prevent it from spinning.
– Use compressed air to gently blow out vents and the fan area. Avoid touching internal components directly.

Listen and observe the fan
– On startup, check if the fan spins briefly or makes any noise.
– If the fan doesn’t spin at all, it could be mechanically stuck or failing.

Update BIOS/firmware
– An outdated BIOS can sometimes trigger fan errors.
– Visit HP’s support site for your laptop model and update to the latest BIOS version.

Check thermal settings and drivers
– Ensure the system management controller or thermal driver is up to date.
– On Windows, check for system and driver updates via HP Support Assistant or Device Manager.

Run hardware diagnostics
– Restart the laptop and press Esc → F2 (or follow your model’s instructions) to run HP Hardware Diagnostics.
– This can confirm if the fan or temperature sensor is malfunctioning.

I hope this helps.
