Yes, the more "testing" that you against the disk-drive, the less "life" is remaining in the disk-drive.

Before you do anything else, make a backup of your Personal Files, and verify that it worked.

Then, it's your choice:

1. buy a compatible disk-drive, and use "disk-cloning" software to copy, block-for-block, from the current disk-drive to the new disk-drive.  This will copy all your installed programs and your personal files.  Then, boot from the new disk-drive, and you are done.

2. take the computer to a computer-store, to have a technician do the above.

3. open a claim against the HP Warranty.  HP will replace the disk-drive.  Whether they will install Windows, install your programs, and load your personal files, is an interesting question.

I understood the problems on more usage & will back-up all my imp data soon .

But not planning to clone this drive ,only Copy & Paste to a secure location the files i want .

As i have too many programs installed & i am comfortable with reinstallation if needed .

3. open a claim against the HP Warranty.  HP will replace the disk-drive.  Whether they will install Windows, install your programs, and load your personal files, is an interesting question.

On this point , i have few doubt's  .If you have any idea on them do let me know 🙂

Will i get my replacement hard disk in India as this was purchased from Kuwait ?

I am asking this bcz for my motherboard replacement i had to take it back to Kuwait as here MotherBoard replacement was not available .

Also how do i check if my warrenty is restricted to any country/Purchase Location ?

Thanks for the reply !

Have a nice day 🙂 :generic:

It is hard to guess whether India support will replace the drive. While drives in various models are all pretty much standard and they should be able to provide same/ similar drive- they may still insist that you return it to country of purchase in accordance with HP Warranty terms.

After Googling a bit ,i found out that the same drive (ST1000LM035-1RK172 ) which i am using now is available in India (Such as EBAY.IN,AMAZON.IN) .

Are u trying to tell that ,even if HP India Center's has the replacement drive .

I might not get it ,due to HP Warrenty Terms ?

I am not employed by HP, and thus am not authorized to speak on behalf of HP about anything, including policies about warranty.

What I can say is that if the warranty is valid, HP is likely to provide a replacement disk-drive, maybe from a different manufacturer (HP does not manufacture disk-drives), and probably the same, or larger, storage capacity.

Note that having your problem gives you an opportunity to purchase a SSD device -- much faster than your current disk-drive -- to "upgrade" your computer to provide better performance. Think about that option.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Thanks a lot for the reply .

I currently have no plans to Upgrade my HDD to an SSD .

If i get an option to upgrade to an SSHD ,i might consider it ,keeping in mind the price i have to pay for it .

But the main point here is ,that whether i will get a replacement from HP India ,even if it is available here !

Appreciating your time spent in looking at my matter !

The only way to find out for sure is to call HP Support India. We can only tell you that normally a machine has to be serviced in the country/region in which it is sold. Replacing the hard drive requires disassembly of laptop and it may require being done in Kuwait.

You mentioned yourself that a motherboard replacement required you to return it to Kuwait.
