Very interesting!
You may as well give it a shot.
You should be able to temporarily disable the USB Legacy Mode Support in the BIOS until after you get W10 completely running on your PC.
Then you can probably set it to auto again.

Thank you, now I will later try returning the BIOS' "USB Legacy Mode Support" to Auto.
(Edit: Especially because I find that in the BIOS and BootMenu USB isn't working when it's set to Disable.)
Hey, I'd love a little driver advice please...
Comparing the Vista and XP drivers at http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/Compaq-Presario-SR1000-Desktop-PC-series/2512431/mod... I now think I was wrong to assume that I should simply install the Vista drivers and forget about the XP ones.
I wonder if the Vista ones are purely the ones that that were updated after Vista came out.
Or would they be the only drivers not incorporated INTO Vista?
In any case, the following appear to be relevant to me:
*** XP drivers ***
Graphics Original and Update (I plan to skip since there's another update below under Vista drivers)
Realtek (I plan to skip since there's another update below under Vista drivers)
Chipset (I'm uncertain, but guess I should install in additon to the "Graphics Update PCI IDE Controller Update" below under Vista Drivers.
LAN (I guess I should install so I can use the onboard ethernet to get Win10 running)
*** Vista drivers ***
Realtek (as in the past I plan to d/l from the Realtek site)
SATA Controller Update (I plan to install; I'm guessing this is what Paul T. shared with me upthread)
Graphics Update (I plan to install; or should I d/l from the NVIDIA site?)
PCI IDE Controller Update (I plan to install)
Any of that not advisable, please?

I've installed Win10 on my SR1913WM (later I'll share my notes on that journey inlcuding BIOS settings). However I'm unable to connect to the internet to activate (and I've got just 10 days left in the free upgrade offer).
I've enabled Onboard LAN in the BIOS, but can't figure out how to update it or the chipset. In the bottom right of the Win10 taskbar the Connection Icon has a red x and the message "Not connected-No connections are available".
When I ran the driver EXE installers I got from the HP site (link upthread), it only resulted in
"The original drivers are stored in the C:\SoftPaq\sp26741 folder. Please install the driver through the Device Manager."
messages. (And from only 2 of the EXEs, thankfully including the chipset and LAN drivers...)
But when I go to the Device Manager, I don't see anything called "Chipset". In Device Manager there are the following entries with yellow triangles:
Display Adapters | "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter"
Network adapters | "NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller"
Other Devices | "Unknown device"
System Devices | "PCI-to-PCI Bridge" (3 of these)
Universal Serial Bus controllers | "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and "Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller"
Since I figure the chipset is my first priority, I take a wild guess and try to update a "PCI-to-PCI Bridge" entry; I point to the C:\SoftPaq\sp26741 folder but get a message "The best driver software for your device is already installed."
Moving to my next highest priority (activating Win10 online) I tried to update the "NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller", I point to the C:\SoftPaq\sp26744 folder but get the same message "The best driver software for your device is already installed."
Attaching my PCI ethernet card is no use, Windows' Device Manager doesn't 'see' it. Disabling Windows Firewall didn't help.
Any advice, please?
FYI here are the drivers I downloaded (the last one from the Realtek site) intending to install):

Hi:
Try the W7 chipset driver directly from Nvidia...there is nothing newer than that.
The chipset driver installs a lot of the motherboard drivers including the ethernet.
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/14874/en-us
For the MS Basic Display adapter, use this driver...
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/82701
Use the W10 audio driver directly from Realtek.
Accept the agreement. Download and install the 1st driver on the list.

First, thank you VERY much, Paul. I'd googled everything I could think of, and I'd looked on ASUS' site (found nothing relevant), but I didn't know how to find thos drivers on the NVIDIA site. And those drivers did install...
but I'm still not online (i.e. when I connect ethernet to the onboard port it doesn't 'see' it). If I were I imagine Windows Update would be helpful.
Now in Device Manager there are the following entries with yellow triangles:
New:
Display Adapters | "NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE" (but I can see the monitor just fine)
Remaining:
Network adapters | "NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller"
Other Devices | "Unknown device"
System Devices | "PCI-to-PCI Bridge" (3 of these)
Universal Serial Bus controllers | "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" and "Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller"
So the PCI slots still aren't 'seeing' my PCI network card.
I remain out of things to try.

You're very welcome.
See if this works...Install this free file utility any way you can (by usb flash drive or CD).
The 1st file listed is for 32 bit.
After you install 7-zip if you didn't save the files I posted, download and save them to your PC, but do not run them.
After you do that, do this to the chipset driver first and then do the same thing for the graphics driver.
Right click on the chipset driver you downloaded and select 7-zip from the list of items.
Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the driver file to its folder.
Once that is done, go to the device manager and click on each problem device (except the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE graphics adapter).
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the chipset driver file 7-zip created.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if any of the devices install that way.
Then restart the PC.
Do the same thing to the graphics driver file and browse to it from the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE graphics adapter the same as you did for the other devices.
If that doesn't work either, then unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try.

Thank you very much for all your help, Paul!
Good thinking; I had tried those files
(I assume you mean "sata_ide.zip" and "sataraid.zip"; unzipped with my beloved 7zip on my other PC as while I have installed 7zip on Win10 now, I only have a PS/2 keyboard but no PS/2 mouse, so while I'm getting practiced at using Win10 without a mouse, I can't figure out how to extract a zip file without right-clicking)
...before installing yesterday the drivers you found for me, but now I've tried it again. Same old "message "The best driver software for your device is already installed.".
I also tried re-installing (and then un-/re-installing) those NVIDIA drivers you found me. Still Win10 isn't recognizing much of my hardware, including onboard ethernet port, USB ports, expansion slots, or onboard audio (even with the Realtek drivers installed).
I haven't tried googling the chipset yet (wasn't sure what it was) but thanks to you and http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00683218#AbT1
I'll try googling
"Windows 10" "GeForce 6150 LE"
and
"Windows 10" "nForce 430"
and see if that leads me to anything promising. I'll report my results.

A tangential question, please:
Can I get AHCI on my Presario SR1913WM?
I don't see AHCI anywhere in my Presario the (most-current 3.11) BIOS, so am I correct in thinking it won't support AHCI?
(I'm guessing that even the W7 nForce driver you pointed out can't add ACHI since the BIOS won't support ACHI.)
I was hoping to put in an SSD (on W8.1 if my ongoing W10 install effort falls short), but now think I shouldn't because I've read that TRIM is important and not supported without AHCI.
07-26-2016 11:00 AM
Hi:
You are correct.
That old chipset does not support ahci, and there are only raid and ide controller drivers for that chipset.
TRIM is important as it allows the drive to get rid of junk files, etc.
TRIM won't work in IDE, and in that old of a RAID configuration, I don't believe (if you can set the controller to RAID).
I know that TRIM support is enabled on Intel PC's with the series 7 chipset, but those are about 8-9 years ahead of the old nForce chipset your PC has.
