i wanted to run windows 11 insider preview in HP x360s102tu laptop.
Unfortunately, PC health check says pc incompatible. But unable to understand why . Can experts in this forum guide me whats missing as minimum hardware requirements.
I did review if Trust platform module and secure boot. Both are available in this HP product.

i did a bit more deep dive and realized that it could be probably due to the CPU generation .
Intel 6th generation cpu is not officially supported, but this is listed as soft floor requirement in microsoft website.
So keeping fingers crossed as it might allow the upgrade with warning.

Hi:
I don't see anything mentioned about a 'soft floor' in the W11 hardware requirements link.
Windows Processor Requirements | Microsoft Docs
The processors listed in the tables below, represent the latest processor generations and models which are supported for the listed Windows Edition.
Under W11, for Intel core processors, only 8th gen core processors and up are listed.

I'm thinking W11 is going to run the same check that PC health tool ran, and not continue installing.

I understand your concerns -- as not all of us have the money to go out and buy a new PC just to run Win11.
If you visit the Win11 forums, you will find threads there with instructions on how you can install Win11 previews on incompatible hardware: Windows 11 Forum (elevenforum.com)
In addition, MS has made comments about offering Win11 as a Free Upgrade to PCs running Win7 and Win8x, as they did years ago with Win10. If that comes about, they will have to loosen their hardware requirements as lots of those machines don't meet the requires of their current compatibility checker.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

Hi, @njnbat
I did find this document regarding hard and soft floor requirements, so we are just going to have to wait and see what happens when we actually try to upgrade older PC's to W11...
Compatibility for Windows 11- Compatibility Cookbook | Microsoft Docs
According to the above document, you may be able to upgrade to W11 as long as your PC meets the hard floor requirements.
So, you are right...it may be possible. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yes. In fact i did a double verification of all the minimum hardware requirements. Fortunately every specification meets and i am proud of the HP product which i bought 5 years back.
Now, if microsoft takes a hard stand on the version of CPU , which in HP x360 is the 6th Gen , it will be very disappointing .
I am more than happy to go ahead with a warning and upgrade to windows 11 than ending up in a situation where no upgrade is possible.

Thanks for directing me to the windows11 forum. I tried the github tool and my findings which were manually done is even double verified by this tool. The CPU version is the lone factor between my pc and windows 11.

More disappointments. Microsoft took a left turn
Will your PC run Windows 11? Even Microsoft can't say for sure | ZDNet
They updated the previously listed soft floor requirements.

Now its a hard stop. No hopes on upgrade with intel processors that are not at least 8th gen.

Hopefully, things will change back to a less stringent standard.
I have an old HP nc6400 notebook that was made in 2006, that used to run Windows 2000 and XP. Now it runs W10 21H1.
That is 15 years of operating system flexibility.
I have a Dell Optiplex 7050 desktop PC that was made in 2017, with an i7-7700 processor, and now 4 - 5 years later, it can't run W11?
That ain't operating system flexibility.
Al I can say is the PC manufacturers can't make money off those of us who continue to use outdated PC's, so this could be one way they are forcing our hand to buy new, if we want to run W11.
Anyway, sit back and enjoy the rollercoaster ride, because I don't think it's over yet.

I guess with windows 11, they had to take a hard call on hardware however it gives a sense of something great coming with windows.
I am sad both my hp pavilion dv6 (2006) and hp x360 (2016) will have to accept this with a pinch of salt and continue with windows 10.
It’s most frustrating when one realize that cpu generation just did the damage while rest all features were there with x360. But I am just trying to imagine the extreme Frustration of a surface studio 2 owner and finding comfort with myself.
Just a thought … is upgrading a 6th gen intel to 8th gen processor feasible ? Is that even worth it for windows 11 ?
