Hi @susangivens72,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue with Windows 11, version 24H2 failing to install due to a hardware problem, let’s address it step by step.

Verify the Error Details

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View Update History.
  • Look for the specific error code associated with the failed installation of version 24H2.
  • Common error codes can provide clues about whether the issue is related to hardware compatibility, storage, drivers, or another factor.

Confirm System Requirements

Ensure your HP laptop meets the requirements for Windows 11, version 24H2:

  • TPM 2.0 enabled (Check in BIOS/UEFI).
  • Secure Boot enabled.
  • At least 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage.

Check for Hardware Compatibility Issues

Run the PC Health Check Tool from Microsoft:

  1. Download the tool from Microsoft's website.
  2. Run the check to confirm hardware compatibility with version 24H2.

Update Drivers

Outdated drivers are a common cause of update failures:

  • Open Device Manager and check for any devices with yellow warning icons.
  • Update drivers for key hardware components, especially:
    • Graphics card
    • Storage controllers
    • Chipset
  • Download the latest drivers from HP’s support site or your hardware manufacturer’s website.

Free Up Disk Space

Ensure there is sufficient storage for the update:

  • Open Settings > System > Storage and check available space.
  • Clear temporary files using Disk Cleanup or Storage Sense.

Perform a BIOS/UEFI Update

Outdated firmware can block OS updates:

  • Visit the HP Support Website and search for your laptop model.
  • Check if a BIOS/UEFI update is available and follow the instructions to install it.

Use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant

  • Download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from Microsoft’s official site.
  • Use it to manually install version 24H2, bypassing potential Windows Update issues.

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional Troubleshooters.
  • Select Windows Update and run the troubleshooter to identify and fix issues.

Check for Specific HP Hardware Issues

Since this is an HP laptop, some proprietary hardware (like custom drivers or BIOS features) might cause compatibility problems:

  • Check HP forums or contact HP support for known issues with Windows 11, version 24H2.
  • Use the HP Support Assistant to diagnose and update system-specific software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
