HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-cx0098ur

Today I barely managed to install a new driver for the Intel HD Graphics 630 graphics card (version 31.0.101.2115, released on December 29, 2022), downloaded directly from the Intel website. But Windows Update persistently downloads and installs the old driver (26.20.100.6911, released on May 28, 2019). Before that, I had the driver version 23.20.16.5018, released on March 27, 2018.

I read somewhere that the problem can be solved by cleaning the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and troubleshooting tools, but it doesn't help.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop Laptop 15:

Windows 10 Home SL (russian) 22H2 64bit

Intel Core i5-8300H 2.30GHz

12 GB of RAM

Intel UHD Graphics 630

NVIDIA GeForce 1060 MaxQ

How do I wean the Update Center from downloading the old driver?

Hi:

Make sure that your Intel/Nvidia graphics switchable graphics still works.

Someone reported when you install the latest Intel graphics driver directly from the Intel website it causes the switchable graphics not to work anymore.  In other words, the Nvidia graphics will not come on when it is needed.

If your switchable graphics are working fine, here is how you can prevent the older driver being delivered via Windows Update from installing.

Have the latest Intel graphics driver installed.

Unzip and run the Microsoft Hide Windows update utility that I zipped up and attached below.

The utility will run and find updates that have not been installed from Windows Update.

Check the box to hide the Intel graphics driver update.

The utility will run again and report the problem is 'Fixed.'

Close out of the utility and you shouldn't be bothered by that update again.
