Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

we have a ZBook 15U G3 with a swollen battery. We ordered a replacement battery and changed it. But now the system does not boot anymore.

Disconnecting the Coin-Battery on the system-board and pressing the power button for 15 seconds does not help.

The only way to get the system running ist to insert the old swollen battery.

It could be, that the new replacement battery has some kind of defect but I just want to check if there is some other issue like a system-lock which prevents the replacement. Some kind of BIOS-Setting or some magical keyboard combination I have to press to unlock the new battery.

Any hint would be appreciated 🙂

I don't know why and how but the replacement battery is working now. (it even rhymes :-))

We had another ZBook15u G3 and I installed the replacement battery just to make sure it doesn't really work.

And to my surprise it worked. So I charged the battery until it reached 50% and tried it again on my faulty ZBook.

And now it works as well. So case closed.

Thanks Erico for your Help.

The only compatible battery is"

Battery         HP part number 800513-001

From your description of the issue and your statement that you can boot it with the original faulty battery, indicates to me that there is a non compatible battery that was installed as a replacement.

Hi Erico,

although I have to say that HP has a very interesting part number policy - many different part numbers for the same spare part, I'm pretty sure I have the correct replacement battery and it's an original hp spare part as well. The numbers on the battery I can find are CS03XL and also 800513-001. And it fits perfectly in the Zbook.

As I've written, I cannot rule out the option, that the new battery is defect. But before I order a new one I wanted to check if I did something wrong while replacing or if I forgot any config-setting (e.g. in BIOS).

But the steps in the manual don't indicate anything in that direction, so I guess I have to order a new one.

If the ZBook boots normally when you install the old battery, it means that you performed the instalation correctly and that the new battery is faulty.

There no changes in the BIOS required for a battery replacement.

The new battery has issues and must be replaced in order to return your ZBook back to a useful state.
