Hello HP Support Team & Community,

I am evaluating an HP ZBook Fury G7 Mobile Workstation and would like to verify its thermal behavior.

During testing under heavy processor load using CPU-Z stress test, I observed the following details via HWInfo64:

  • CPU Temperature: Peak temperatures reach around 95°C.

  • Thermal Throttling Indicator: Triggers "YES" during maximum load.

  • Idle Performance: Idle temperatures sit normally between 40°C and 50°C.

My Questions:

  1. Is reaching ~95°C with temporary thermal throttling expected behavior for this specific ZBook model during maximum Turbo Boost / peak workload?

  2. Does this indicate a hardware defect, or is it within the normal operating parameters designed by HP for this workstation chassis?

These high temperatures can be normal on a laptop that is already a year old and needs maintenance, such as cleaning and repasting, or especially if you’re running stress tests that put unnecessary load on the system.

 

Stress tests are useful if you’ve just cleaned the laptop or applied new thermal paste and want to check for improvements. However, if you’re stress‑testing your laptop for no particular reason, you’re simply putting unnecessary strain on it, because normal gaming and work don’t stress the system as much as stress tests do.

 

If your CPU/GPU temperatures reach this high (above 90°C) while using the laptop for normal work (office tasks, general use, gaming, etc.), then you should clean the fans and air vents and replace the old thermal paste with a high‑quality one, such as Arctic MX‑7.
